I continue to be heckin' desperate for a Pokemon Go replacement, exercise-wise, and had semi-jokingly threatened to make a spreadsheet headed by a pic of my "buddy" Pokemon + walk distances plugged in. During this evening's walk I actually managed to get the juice flowing and roughly sketched out what such a thing would look like....
I have Captain Awkward's "great, you should write it down!" still ringing in my ears ("I know and she knows and you know that until the thing is on the page in some fashion – even a messy, first-draft, imperfect fashion – you can’t really DO anything with it”) so I spent the evening furiously hammering. I have the starter-pokemon generator pretty well finished for now– you need access to random dot org and a pokemon list that lets you check both type & generation, but I mean, if you're in deep enough that this appeals, that's probably fine. I tried it out to pick my buddy and it works nicely! Now I'm squinting at the body(?) of the beast: how to stitch together a tracker for the walking so that it has a nice Pokemon flavor... hmm.
I've had further daydreams about how to catch them (probably similar to the starter generator) and evolving (less certain...) and maybe things like eggs and tracking where you're "hanging out" for purposes of what you can find to catch? Eh, extras. As long as I weaponize my desire to mAkE bAr gO Up I am succeeding.
I will sleep on the impulse to run this for other people, but for now I am pleased both to be taking steps (hew hew hew) to fix my exercising AND that my foray into Baby's First Handcrafted Tabletop System is going okay.
