After more years than I can count of not thinking about it, today is the day I went "wait, can I toggle Notepad++ to Dark Mode?"

  1. You can.
    • But you couldn't for years, so it's convenient that I didn't try a long time ago.
  2. To my ever-diminishing surprise you have to do it in two parts though: there's Settings → Preferences → Dark Mode and Settings → Style Configurator.
    • P→Dark Mode governs the "outer" part of the program like the toolbars, sidebars and footer.
    • Style Configurator governs the "interior" notepads themselves like the "paper" color, font and selection.
  3. Regular people can probably just set the first of those and move on with their lives. (Because turning on Dark Mode technically triggers the DefaultDarkMode theme without you having to do it yourself.)
  4. I began with the second and quickly realized how cool I could make individual colors, fancy formatting, etc so I've given up and made a custom theme that goes beyond basic Dark Mode. I enjoy forest-colored dark and by golly I will have it.
  5. But I want everyone to know one default preinstalled theme is "Hello Kitty" and YES it looks like what you imagine. The only reason I'm not using it is my eyes can't take it. But I wish they could.

Friday the 11th:
Caught: Pidgeotto
Hatched: Stunky
The day's heartbreak was missing a Finneon by thirty seconds. Boo! But new hatches are new hatches, and a Pidgeotto for pokedex that cost me 0 candy was VERY welcome.

Saturday the 12th, Totodile Community Day:
SHINY: Totodile x4, Makuhita
Caught: T O T O D I L E S, Haunter(?!)
Hatched: Feebas, Alolan Vulpix
Raid: Golem, Croconaw
Evolved: Feraligatr, Hariyama
My first meaningful Community Day! (Nevermind that I joined the game during the CD so big it was an entire weekend.) The forecast was bad but last-minute looked okay enough to permit hauling out to an indoor mall. The bad news: the @#$%ing mall doesn't have@#$%ing GPS reception for my @#$%ing carrier!! The good news: don't care, caught 110 Totodile anyways. The power of "walking outside" is not to be underestimated... even if it WAS cold as hell and I had some mild regretti when I couldn't feel my hands.

People were existed near! Fun was had! )

All in all I had a ton of fun today and I'm glad I went out. Now I just need to find somewhere with lots of stops and useful GPS reception for next Community Day.

So the thing nobody told me was that this park is a pokestop central. )

Awhile ago I was idly browsing Neogeen's tumblr and one character kept popping up over and over again. I narrowly managed to pull enough info from the descriptions to google up that it was from "Arcane Zoo" which led me to a dA page: "Arcane Zoo reopening!" (Nov 2017)

I was tired so I stuck the bookmark on a hotplate and shelved it. Tonight I was tired but in need of brain-snacks so I finally pulled it back out.

TIL that "Art Role Playing Games" (ARPG but good luck keeping that distinct from Action Role Playing Game ARPG) are an entire genre on dA– not that they're beholden to the platform, but dA has/had a confluence of features that lent it to them. Approximately: petsite meets tabletop and you play via making art.

Facts:
1) I've struggled for years to find ways to motivate myself artistically.
2) Ooooooh booooooy am I a sucker for gamification.

Two hours later I'm still trawling for an ARPG I'm interested in– Arcane Zoo looked good (and isn't locked to dA....) but I wasn't seeing much activity on its forums and it wasn't on point for my preferred aesthetics. Most of the top ARPGs are Standard Furrybait: you've got your cats, you've got your dogs, you've got your horses, and then you start in on cat/dog/horse + another animal = special new species unique to the setting (cat-moth, dog-bear, etc). I'm not into those so my searching has required some effort, made all the more exciting by dA's total disdain for/lack of support for searching.

So far I've found two unrelated games whose key made-up animal could be described as "floofdino dragon". Color me sleepily intrigued....

An incomplete list of ARPGs I've found: )

Let me just get this out of the way: I went grocery shopping today. The plethora of 'stops and gyms spread around that shopping center are obnoxiously far apart so I kept driving over and idling with the engine/lights on while I taptaptap'd before moving on to the next one.

I wanted to grab one more gym assault on my way home so I pulled up, taptaptap'd... and then realized everything was... getting quiet.

Yeah, I killed my battery and had to phone someone to give me a jump. All in the name of Pokemon. (I didn't even take the gym.) )
